What is the spacebar counter record

The spacebar counter record is believed to belong to American teenager Krishna Thapa who, in 2006, managed to press the spacebar key on a standard keyboard 305 times in 15 seconds.

Thapa set the impressive record at his school's annual general knowledge quiz using an HP laptop. At the time, he was merely trying to show off his speed-typing skills but when some of the other students began timing him and encouraging him to keep going Thapa was determined to press the spacebar as many times as he could.

The current standing world record of 305 taps within the 15 second benchmark is still held by Thapa and has remained unchallenged since it was first set in 2006. The champion doesn't plan to relinquish his title anytime soon either since he is still practicing regularly and actively trying to beat his own record.

The practice of testing one's keyboarding speed with a spacebar counter isn't new however; such counting exercises have been around for decades and have been performed by professional typists as well as amateur enthusiasts who specialize in improving their typing speed. Even music producers have used a series of timed spacebar exercises in order to challenge themselves and produce faster beats.
